WHAT IS

Homeowners Insurance?

Homeowners insurance provides financial protection against disasters. A standard policy insures the home itself and the things you keep in it.

Homeowners insurance is a package policy. This means that it covers both damage to your property and your liability or legal responsibility for any injuries and property damage you or members of your family cause to other people. This includes damage caused by household pets.

Damage caused by most disasters is covered but there are exceptions. The most significant are damage caused by floods, earthquakes and poor maintenance. You must buy two separate policies for flood and earthquake coverage. Maintenance-related problems are the homeowners’ responsibility.

    Construction & Risk Characteristics

A gable roof type has two sloping sides that come together at a ridge, creating end walls with a triangular extension. This is the most common type.

A flat roof type has no slopes and is level.

A hip roof is a type of roof where all sides slope downwards to the walls, usually with a fairly gentle slope. Thus a hipped roof house has no gables or other vertical sides to the roof

The Loss History is the number of individual losses (property and liability coverage combined) experienced for this address during the preceding three years.

A “local alarm” (burglary, smoke) when activated sets off a bell, siren/and or a strobe light outside your home. Authorities are not notified unless someone hears the alarm and calls the police. A “central alarm” is monitored by an alarm company 24/7; they then notify your policy department if it is activated. This may allow an additional discount to your premium.
